West End Bake Off is a charity event, set to take place on Saturday 23rd May 2015, in aid of 'Acting For Others' - an organisation which helps the less fortunate in the entertainment industry, for example, people who are suffering from illness or disability, or caring for children with special needs. The organisation targets not just performers, but people who work "behind the scenes" too - stage managers, make up artists, set designers - you name it, AFO supports them! The aim of the event is to raise much needed funds, which will then be distributed among 15 small-scale charities connected to Acting for Others.
The event will run from 11am to 1pm in St Anne's Church Courtyard, on Saturday 23rd May. You will be able to buy guilt-free treats, all in the name of musical theatre! If you are unable to come to the event itself, (not everyone lives close enough to London to pop over for cake!), then you can still donate to Acting For Others via their Just Giving page.
The event will be opened and co-judged by Barbara Windsor MBE, with the casts of many West End shows joining in as well! So far, the shows taking part are:
- Beautiful - The Carole King Musical
- Billy Elliot the Musical
- The Book of Mormon
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Mamma Mia!
- Les Misérables
- The Mousetrap
- The Phantom of the Opera
- The Railway Children
- War Horse
Also supporting the Bake Off will be the awesome people from Theatre Café, which is an adorable and fast evolving café on Shaftesbury Avenue. They will be there selling soft drinks, so be sure to go and say hello if you're there too!
I am absolutely in love with the idea that two of my FAVOURITE things, (baking and theatre), can come together, and, in doing so, help a good cause! If there is any way that you can go along to the event, then you will be making a wonderful contribution, and, in the words of a certain popular British supermarket, "Every little helps!".
