Interview with Harveen Mann

As many of you will already know, Bend It Like Beckham closed on Saturday night, bringing with it the announcement of a potential UK and world tour! In the following interview, I spoke to Harveen Mann, who plays one of the Aunties, and also covers Pinky (particularly this past week!)
Harveen is honestly one of the loveliest people to work with, so I hope you all enjoy this interview!

If you could play any role in any musical (regardless of age, sexuality, race, gender, etc.) who would it be and why?
I would love to play Anita in West Side Story. I have always wanted to!

Who is your biggest inspiration?
I don't really have just one as I am constantly inspired by people I see. A friend who I was in 'Bend it like Beckham" in is a huge inspiration to me as she is both a mum and a west end performer and that changed my views on the way this industry works and that you can do both. Which is what I would want one day!

If you could become your character for a month, would you?
I would love to be Elphaba in wicked for just a month. I think any longer and I would be sick of being green! haha!

If, right at this moment, someone said "Sing a song! Now!" What would you sing?
I love "when im gone" from pitch perfect!

If you were stuck on a desert island with a musical soundtrack and an actor, what/who would they be and why?
I would take "The last 5 years" soundtrack as I love every single song in it!
An actor.....maybe Dame Judy Dench. There's lots that I could learn from her!

What has been your favourite thing about being in Bend It Like Beckham?
Being a swing means that I can to cover 7 tracks. This has been the most challenging yet rewarding task in my professional life so far!

What’s your favourite quote from a play or musical?
"I've got to live and live now, get what I want I know how" Funny girl (Don't rain on my parade)

What are your plans after you've finished in Bend It Like Beckham?
I have some recording work coming up at the end of the month but I want to get back into a musical ASAP!

Do you have any pre-show rituals over at Bend It Like Beckham?
Yes! I always make sure I have a wee at the 5! haha! I am always backstage before the beginners call and make sure that my water bottle is full and then when the prologue begins I do a quick prayer!

What advice would you give to someone like me who wants to become an actress when they're older?
Work hard....REALLY REALLY HARD! and learn to take rejection and most of all....NEVER GIVE UP!

Have you got anything else you'd like to say to my readers?
Enjoy new shows! There aren't enough of them!

And on that note, that's the end of today's interview! You can follow Harveen on Twitter by clicking here.
